How to Write a Short Film Script in Arabic

A short film is the best place to learn screenwriting, and the one most writers start with. It is small enough to finish and sharp enough to teach you every basic skill.

Why a short film is a different job

A feature has room for side plots and slow middles. A short film has a few minutes to establish a character, plant a want and deliver a turn. Every scene has to earn its place.

What a short must do

Check the page count before you write. Most festivals and labs ask for a short script of under fifteen pages, so read the call first. The format rules are the same as for a feature, and the guide to Arabic screenplay format covers them.

INT. KITCHEN, NIGHT
A kettle whistles. Nobody moves.
NOOR
Sell the shop if you want. Not the machine.
CUT TO:

Test the story in one sentence before you write a page. If you cannot say who wants what and what stands in the way, the short is not ready. The logline guide shows how to build that sentence in Arabic, see how to write a logline for an Arabic screenplay.

When the script is finished, where to submit your Arabic screenplay explains which festivals, labs and funds accept short scripts.

You can write and format the whole short on the free plan before you decide on anything else.
